Baltimore Blues by Laura Lippman

Laura Lippman is most known for this detective series based on a female detective named Tess Monaghan. Now Tess doesn't start out as a detective she just kind of falls into it. Tess has been out of work for 2 years since the Baltimore Star newspaper went out of business. Her friend and rowing coach asks her for help when he is falsely accused of murder, thus sparking a new career.
You will find that Ms. Lippman uses things from her own previous experiences as a reporter for a now defunct newspaper.
This book starts out a little slow, but hang in there, it's worth it! Lots of interesting twists at the end! Don't be surprised if you find yourself saying "I did not see that coming".
